Our omakase experience was incredible! Beautifully presented dishes with delicious flavours. The portion sizes were spot on (not too small and not so large we wouldn’t be able to finish all the dishes). We also had the wine and sake pairing which was a wonderful addition to our meal. It was fun hearing about the backstory behind each pairing, and the pairings elevated the entire experience.
Last night, we had an outstanding dining experience, thanks to Chloe’s exceptional service. She walked us through the menu with such detail and enthusiasm, making the meal even more enjoyable. Service is undoubtedly one of the biggest reasons this place is on the Michelin list, and the execution is just as impressive. Some dishes might seem simple at first glance, but they’ve undergone an extensive cooking process to enhance their flavors—and the team is more than happy to share those details. The ambiance is dimly lit, creating a romantic atmosphere, and the samba jazz playing in the background makes it perfect for a date night. Left completely satisfied and would highly recommend!
This place is perfect. Relaxing vibe, friendly staff, and incredible food. Pasta was incredible and the fried olives are a must. The nitro green tea is also top notch
Wow! I’m usually weary of fusion (because sometimes the dishes feel forced and unnatural), but Kissa Tanto blew me away and made me a fan! All of the food was very well thought out and combined a good amount of Italian and Japanese elements. Some particular highlights were the pastas / noodle dishes, specifically the charcoal udon and the spaghettoni. Service was also impeccable. Our server patiently explained every dish, answered any questions and made sure our drinks were always topped up.
I’ve always wanted to try this restaurant and finally had a chance to recently. Another one of Vancouver’s Michelin starred restaurants, this one in particular is prided on its Asian fusion style of food and one of the best to pull it off in the city. If you like fusion food and it’s done well, this is the place to go! First you’re greeted by the warm staff once you walk up their stairs. Then they have an extended cocktail list (great drinks). The Amaro Long Island is certainly a good one if you’re a fan of amaro. My Private Tokyo was my personal favorite. The food is well prepared and seasoned to perfection. Nothing too salty or too saucy. The tartare may look intimidating, covered with cheese, but it’s perfect and one of the best in Vancouver. It’s worth checking this place out for a special occasion!
Kissa Tanto offered a memorable dining experience that elevated our Valentine’s Day celebration. From the moment we stepped inside, the cozy yet refined atmosphere and attentive service set the tone for a special evening. The sommelier’s detailed wine pairing recommendations were spot-on, enhancing each course while also tasting wonderful on their own. The first course featured fresh oysters with a mysterious black sauce that both my wife and I found absolutely delightful—briny, rich, and full of flavor. Next came a dish of fried bites atop a vegetable base, served with a green sauce in the center. I personally appreciated the slight umami and tang, but my wife felt it had a Southeast Asian twist that wasn’t to her taste. The third course was tuna accompanied by a bright green oil-based sauce, which we both loved so much that we used spoons to scoop up every drop. Moving on to the wagyu steak, it initially melted in the mouth with a buttery tenderness, though it did become a bit chewy toward the end of each bite. Then came the star of the evening for me: uni pasta. The noodles had just the right thickness and a satisfying bite, while the sauce combined with the sea urchin created a deeply savory, almost indescribable flavor that lingered pleasantly. The tortellini dish with broth and truffle shavings was another highlight—taking a spoonful that combined all three components at once delivered an unforgettable burst of taste. A subsequent course of wagyu topped with crab was flavorful, but it suffered slightly by comparison to the earlier pasta courses, which left a lasting impression. Even so, the overall progression of dishes showcased creativity and precision. The evening concluded with a dessert that was as visually striking as it was sweet and refreshing. Overall, the balance of atmosphere, service, and food made this Michelin-starred restaurant well worth a visit for a special occasion.
We were well served by Carolyn following a friends recommendation to eat here! The course delivery was superb and the whole experience is professional. Highly recommend.
First dine out in 2025! What a pleasant surprise found in the middle of Vancouver China town, 2nd floor of some building. Kissa Tanto offers a la carte as well as omakase. Their omakase menu is customizable according to your preference and would also be charged at different price point. We had to ask the staff to detail out what a standard omakase looks like in order to decide what we want. At the end, we chose a la carte. Service and vibe are both superb. We were seated at the bar counter, the staffs are very detailed when it comes to cleaning our counter and preparing the right cutlery before every dish is served. Food is amazing and has a fair balance of Japanese and western cooking. Dishes that were especially memorable to us were the stuffed olives and bolognese spaghetti. In terms of drinks, they look like they make very good cocktails and have great sake selection. As we are not up for alcohol that night, we chose a sparkling hojicha which I highly recommend, the smell and taste is very unique and beautiful. I wish other restaurants out there would also put in the efforts to make unique non-alcoholic drinks. Definitely will visit again when we are next in town.
